Righty Oh!
The season finished with a blissful day up on Silverton Mountain and the day previously with San Juan Cat Skiing. Now, my attention is turned to getting through the last of the finals here at Fort Lewis College and kayaking. The rivers are coming up and it's getting good! Check back every once in a while to see what's going on, but for now check the self edit I put together...
Enjoy,

Fun in the sun! and other updates....
Yo!
I hope everybodies season is winding down in style. After a 10th place finish in Crested Butte and some killer snow the following week, we've been getting pounded! 3 april storms have deposited 45"of snow and another is rolling through as we speak. It's been a good time lately with low avy danger and we've gotten to ski some of the lines that we dreamt about all season. Got to ski with some great friends these past few weeks. Hopefully get some more shots out of the next few weeks, but my attention is turning to kayaking and fly-fishing now. Check out the photos and video and get over to http://thewinterlife.com to check out some other flylow athletes in action including Jake Sakson who is currently killing it in AK!
Enjoy and see you on the river, slopes, or wherever! Vibe hard,
Luke
Clockwise- Eric Tollund gets down on freshies on Red Mountain, Nick Malik sends large, Riley Berman dragged me out to the river for a beautiful day.

Spring Break Complete....
Yes it's true, the 9 days on the road has finally come to a close. We ended up skiing a short fun backcountry run right outside of Glenwood Springs on Friday and taking the day off Saturday. We drove to Ouray on Saturday night and climbed out of the truck next to the ice climbing right outside of there. Daylight Savings time had begun much to our dismay and we got right on the road getting over to Red Mountain to ski the ever famous "Sam's Trees" to end the whole thing. We approached it from a different route than at the beginning of the trip which put us right at the top of the chute and was incredibly easy too! The snow was absolutely superb (18"?) and the avy danger was virtually non-existent which is of course a weird thing for the San Juans. Needless to say I'm back here at school and loving every minute of it... NOT!
Enjoy the video and pics below and remember to have fun,
Luke

Monarch and Monarch Pass!
Yo Yo!
So much fun has been had that it is hard to restate this trip. We drove in and camped in the back of my truck (see picture below) and woke up to 7" of fresh on the mountain and skied all day while another 7" fell on Monarch ski area. Such a killer place that we went back the next day to rack up untracked laps down mirkwood basin and a ton of other places. We happened to meet up with Corey Folks, who introduced us to his ski patrol friend, Tyler and also let us crash on his couch that night! Thanks Corey! It was bluebird to begin the day, clouded up just a bit, and then ended bluebird. Fantastic! Today we did a smaller tour on Monarch Pass called "Perfect Trees" and still tallied close to 2000 feet of uphill vert with the same down. Super fun! We're looking to do a tour tomorrow with tele skier Alex Paul tomorrow and then another day at Monarch before heading home to see the fam and do a few laps on the local backcountry spot and head back to school. Here are some pics, Enjoy,

Coalbank to Red Mountain to Monarch
Just have a few minutes so here's some photos. Fun stuff for sure. 3 days into it and Colin and I had some of the best skiing we've ever had. Monarch got pounded last night with 7" and then recieved at least another 7" over the course of the day. Super Sick! Sorry to delay, here are the photos...
Vibe hard, Ski harder!

SPRING BREAK!
Hello,
Spring break has begun! Today my friend and spring break friend Colin and I went up to Coalbank Pass and skied 1800 or so vert. The snow was interesting, but it's all good and super stable. We have absolutely no plans but have built and outfitted various pieces of furniture to make the back of my truck into a makeshift home. Like I said, we have no plans but to ski, and ski we will. Check back for updates and enjoy the rest of the winter!

Shredding around Durango
Hello hello,
It's been busy, there's no question. A trip to California ending in a 9th place finish, backcountry and front country skiing every weekend and more photos than I can hope to edit while the snow is still around. Adventures into the mountains leading to epic days with help from all my friends.
Enjoy the pictures, video, and most importantly, the life!

SNOW
Yes, the blower white stuff has hit the 4 corners area. Durango was blessed with 35" of snow, shutting down fort Lewis and most of the town for Thursday afternoon and all of Friday. Purgatory recorded 63" out of the storm and we're expecting another storm to come in Tuesday! If you've been looking for the snow, you can find it at any of the resorts surrounding Durango. My buddy Riley and I went to Red Mountain and did backcountry the weekend before this storm came in and got some nice turns. Riley and I camped out at Purg to be the first up there in the morning and took some powder night pictures right at the base while the snow continued to pound. Unfortunately, the powder the next day was slightly less than prime. Although it was in copious amounts, it was incredibly dense and the less-than-steep slopes at Purg don't lend themselves to that type of skiing. Skied Saturday at Purgatory again and then headed to Wolf Creek's college day on Sunday to rack up a multitude of runs in the over 60" of blower CO powder that had been deposited over the course of the storm. My friends Sam and Will were also there and we shot a ton of footage so an edit will be coming shortly. Enjoy the snow and feel free to drop me a line if you're headed to Durango!
Snow and peace,
Luke

Photos and Skiing
Yo!
Just returned from another sunrise adventure up in a local backcountry area. The hamburger I had last night messed me up a bit on the 6:00 hike (attempting vegetarian), but I joined my friend Sam on the summit before the sun poked above the elk mountains. The snow flurries flirted with ruining the view but eventually unveiled a beautiful blue sky above us while, most of the clouds hung low in the valleys below us.
Had a great Christmas, and thanks to my parents and some generous family members, I now have a beacon which means I am fully equipped for backcountry travel (in gear, I won't get ahead of myself with knowledge). I've been skiing a wonderful amount over this christmas break here in Glenwood Springs, even though Durango has gotten almost twice the snow we've received here. I'll be back there in a week and you can bet I'll be sliding through the fluff as soon as I can!
Enjoy the photos, the snow, and the life,
Luke

Skiing and the meaning of it all...
I'm home from college and just wanted to drop a little update....
Since skiing Highlands once, and a local backcountry spot near Glenwood Springs multiple times, I'm at least up to 20 days on snow as far as I can figure (yes, many of those days have been one or two lap days, but nonetheless....).
Now a few words on the idea of sacred.
Sacred is... Waking up well before dawn with thoughts of telemark turns, (or alpine too...), It's putting skins on in the dark and having to try multiple times to get the skin going down the center of the ski, It's hiking up in the dark and feeling a chilly breeze rushing through your pit zips and leg vents, It's reaching the top of the hike in the calm glow of a rising sun yet to poke up above the Elk mountains, It's doing something different than you did the day before! It's realizing that where you live is a beautiful place, It's being grateful for it all... even the little things!
Enjoy and happy holidays,
Luke

Season's coming, am I ready...?
So I've been lagging a bit, but that is soon to change. Red Mountain Pass has already been skied for the season, and although it wasn't done by me, It's still a clear sign that the season of snow is coming. Within the last week I've also been informed that I will be wearing the Alpine Quest Sports logo this season as part of a newly formed sponsorship. Be sure to visit the store in Edwards, CO or on the world wide web at http://alpinequestsports.com. I'll also be continuing working with FlyLow Gear out of Denver, Colorado. They're also online at http://flylowgear.com. I'm incredibly excited for the next semester of school and the coming wonter months. Word on the street is that it is a El Nino year which means big dumps all around! The Telemark Club here at Fort Lewis is going strong and we'll be screening Josh Madsen's "The Freeheel Life" here on Campus on November 11 at 7 p.m. in the newly renovated Vallecito room! If you're in or around Durango on the 11th be sure to come check it out!
Here's hoping for a big season and thanks for visiting the site,

Chile and FLC Telemark Club
Howdy,
Sorry for the gap in time on this blog writing stuff. I had quite an adventure this summer; A trip to Chile with Kayo Ogilby and Nick Devore's Big Mountain Telemark Camp. The snow held out well for the time (although it didn't snow until the last evening!) and definitely gained a lot in the way of skiing variable snowpack and going fast. The camp was amazing and if you have the chance, certainly not something to pass up. The Chilean Andes are spectacular and a view of Mount Aconcagua (the tallest mountain in the americas) added something to the sightseeing part of the trip.
I'm now down in college at Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO. I've found a passion for writing and plan to change my major to that when I get the chance. Clubs are very easily formed here and I took advantage and formed the first ever Fort Lewis Pinheads Telemark Club. We have gained over 50 names and e-mails as of now and more are sure to come. We'll see how many commit to the club when the snow flies, but there seems to be a lot of interest in the whole thing. College is interesting and I will surely be posting things as they happen. Enjoy and pray for an unforgettable season,
Luke

Skiing Magazine!
Hey Everybody!
So... I'm interning/shadowing at Skiing Magazine in Boulder now! It's super sweet and I'm learning so much. It's definitely the less glamorous side of skiing (kind of) as time is typically spent in front of a computer. Still, looking at some of the best pictures taken of skiing is not the worst thing.
See ya on the slopes...Luke
I wish I was skiing... but this is the next best thing!

Alpine Meadows, CA Telemark Freeskiing Championships February 26th to March 4th
First off, I apologize about my lack of keeping up with the blog. Between school, 3 comps, and more, I am finally getting around to it. I'll start off with the Alpine Meadows Telemark Freeskiing Championships. I road tripped from Glenwood Springs, CO with Jake Sakson all the way down with a one night layover at Josh Madsen's house in SLC. We arrived at the Meadows to 6" of new snow with more expected and the top of the mountain closed due to wind and snow. SICK! Virtually nobody was there and Jake and I shredded with some of the other athletes and also with Evan Phelps who was nice enough to put a bunch of FLyLow riders and many others up for the few days. Phelps is mother to famous tele skier and assistant editor of Skiing Magazine Megan Michealson. Needless to say, on my first run in a new state, I broke a pole. Luckily, Jake brought two of everything (literally) and helped me out.
The competition was awesome even though only 40 skiers came out. The Junior division was small and the Mens division was quite stacked with names like JT Robinson, Ty Dayberry, Paul Kimbrough and many more. I decided to compete up to mens even though I am still 17 and it payed off with a 6th place finish including a lincoln loop in my final run. Jake Slayed it with a 1st place finish and JT tied for third along with Paul Kimbrough. It was a sick comp that TGP put on and I can't wait for next season! Here are some pictures from the comp that my friends and I took during the comp. Enjoy and I will no doubt see you on the slopes!

I was pretty happy with my
last run that bumped me from 11th to 6th.

Park dayz
Aspen/Snowmass' conditions are slightly less than prime, but the jumps in the park are doing pretty well. It was nice to have a bluebird day with which to learn some grabs and spin to win. Definetly a good time with my friends from the tele team: Duncan Marsh, Hayden Kennedy, Noah Johns, and my coach Kayo Obilby who took the pictures.
See ya on the slopes!
